Prime
Minister Gordon Brown announced in March, while Chancellor of the
Exchequer, his aim for the UK to be one of the first countries to phase
out inefficient light bulbs and set an ambitious target date to achieve
that by the end of 2011, ahead of possible actions by the EU to ban these
products altogether.
The Western World uses approximately 20% of its energy
on lighting, if all the halogen downlighters were replaced with LED Europe
would save 3,500,000 tonnes of Carbon each year. Most people are unaware
that compact fluorescents contain Mercury which can prove harmful to
developing children, according to the National Academy of Sciences over
60,000 children are born each year at risk from adverse neurodevelopmental
effects following exposure in utero to mercury.
Facts about LED Lighting
Safe Operating Temperature - LEDs generate very
little heat unlike incandescent lights that have an operating temperature
of approximately 250° (hotter than your oven!)
Long Life Span - LEDs last up to 50,000 hours,
many times longer than other forms of lighting making them ideal for
locations where lights are located in hard to reach locations.
Low Power Consumption - LEDs use little
electricity. Our range of LED spotlights use between 3 and 5 Watts of
electricity.
Flexible Application - the cool operating
temperatures and high durability of LED lighting makes them well suited to
a wider range of applications.
Environmentally Friendly - unlike other forms of
energy efficient lighting LEDs do not contain hazardous materials. All the
lights we sell are RoHS compliant.
Comply with Building Regulations - LEDs achieve
high levels of light output against the power they consume. This means
they exceed by some considerable margin the energy efficient requirements
mandated in UK building regulations (Building Regulations sections L1A,
L1B, L2A, L2B).
No Hazardous Substances - Pose no health and
safety risk. LEDs contain no hazardous materials making them very
environmentally friendly.
We can offer Low Energy Consumption LED Lighting for use
inside and out in all types of building’s including street lighting. All
of our lights are energy efficient and so help to reduce CO2 emissions and
help to protect the environment they have been tested by the UK lighting
association. It is a condition of the Low Carbons Building Programme that
if you would like to apply for a grant for household renewable
technologies that energy efficient lighting should be used in
all-appropriate fittings.
