WIND
In the UK we have 40% of Europe’s
total wind energy, but it’s still largely untapped
and only 0.5% of our electricity requirements are currently generated
by wind power.
Planning permission will usually be required, it generally does not
cause any great problems but it is always wise to consult your neighbours
first, it will take around four weeks and requires a small fee.

As a general rule we would require twice the length of the chosen
mast to install the wind turbine and suitable access for delivery,
a wind speed of at least 4.6m/s and the turbine should be situated
towards southwest for the strongest winds. Foundations will be required
and can be installed by a local builder or by us, a foundation pack
can be sent out several weeks prior to the mast installation.
Our wind turbines range from 6.5m to 15m in height and 0.6kW to 15kW
in power. A 2.5kW turbine would be suitable for powering an average
three bedroom home for electrical needs (electrical appliances only
not including heating).
Wind Turbines.
The new scheme will provide a "maximum of £1,000 per kW
of installed capacity, subject to an overall maximum of £2,500
or 30% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower"
for wind turbines, there will be no monthly cap on these grants, and
they will be issued on a first come first served basis until the "pot"
runs out.
In the mean time you should be aware that in order to apply for a
grant there are certain building requirements:
· Insulate the whole loft with 250mm insulation
· The property must have cavity wall insulation
· Low energy light are required in every appropriate light
fitting in the building
· Basic heating controls are essential i.e. room thermostat
and time
It is also recommended that you take part in a home energy check of
your building.
Grants are available from the dti (Low Carbons Building Program) for
